A Heartfelt Nod to the First Moomin Story
Moomin Arabia’s Moomin’s Day mug for 2025 is a special one. It celebrates the very first Moomin tale, The Moomins and the Great Flood, with a beautifully gentle scene of Moomintroll and Moominmamma tucked up together among the ferns.
The design reflects the earliest versions of the Moomins. Their features are a little less round, their snouts a little narrower, but they are still as curious, kind, and brave as ever. In the illustration, Moominmamma has made a cosy nest for herself, Moomintroll, Tulippa (a mysterious blue-haired girl), and a timid little creature who would later be known as Sniff. They’ve all drifted off to sleep, except Moomintroll, who lies awake listening to the strange sounds of the forest.
This mug is part of the Moomin 80 anniversary and comes with some lovely extras. It features a special inner decal of Moominmamma and Moomintroll climbing a ladder, a commemorative Moomin 80 bottom stamp, and a gift box decorated with Moomin 80 artwork.
In the UK, it will be available from 8.00 am on 9 August 2025, exclusively at moomin.co.uk and the Moomin Shop in Covent Garden, while stocks last.
To mark the occasion, Moomin Arabia is also releasing a few extra treats. These include limited-edition t-shirts, tote bags, tea towels, and classic Moomin mugs with the 80 anniversary stamp.
In the original story, Moominmamma and Moomintroll are searching for Moominpappa, who has gone missing. Their journey takes them through a flooded world, where they face challenges, receive help from strangers, and make new friends. In the end, they find a peaceful valley and are joyfully reunited with Moominpappa. There, they decide to settle and make a home in what will become Moominvalley.
It marks the beginning of everything we have come to love about Moominvalley and the Moominhouse. A place where everyone is welcome, just as they are.

The mugs will be shipped out starting August 9th. We anticipate a rush of orders, and the shipping times listed in the Moomin web shops will likely take longer.
Can I reserve the mug in advance?
The mugs can’t be reserved in advance. If you want, you can sign up for the Moomin Shop email notification as a reminder when the mugs are in stock. However, to make sure that you get the mug, the best approach is to be online 5 minutes before the launch time with all the information required at checkout ready to go. It is always possible that the notification will reach your inbox later than expected, depending on the volume of emails and your email provider.
Is it possible that the mugs will be sold out immediately?
The mugs will be sold as long as the stock lasts. It is not possible to give an estimation of the availability, but the stock is limited, and there will not be any additional stock after this campaign.
Will the mug be reserved for me when I add it to the cart?
No, items added to the cart in the Moomin online shop are not reserved. The item is only reserved for you after checkout.
