Juhannukseen mennessä ehtii tapahtua paljon. Muumiperhe pakenee Muumilaakson tulvaa ensin talonsa yläkertaan, sitten katolle ja lopulta ohi ajelehtivaan omituiseen rakennelmaan. Uudessa kodissa tapahtuu outoja asioita. Mutta miksi kaiken oikeastaan pitäisi olla juuri niin kuin on tottunut, Muumimamma tuumii. Muumipeikko ja Niiskuneiti viettävät juhannuksensa vankilassa, vaikka sinne kuuluisi Nuuskamuikkunen - ainakin jos hemulipoliisi saisi päättää. Juonenkäänteet huipentuvat Muumipapan kirjoittaman näytelmän ensi-illassa.
